Day Three –June 20, 2010
Coupe Canada Cup 2010 Final Score : 57-55
Gold for Australia and Silver for Canada
Canada started the game strongly keeping pressure on the Australian team and Ryley Batt, a lasting effort during the three quarters of the game. At the end of the first half, with a 3 points lead for Canada (28-25) and right up to the third quarter, everything was still possible. But the Australian team came back pushing its way up to 46-46 and then to take a one point lead for the first time in the game. By then it was too late for Canada to turn things back. Patrice Simard, though disappointed with the final score (57-55) was satisfied with the tournament : ‘ We played in front of our family and fans, they were all very supportive. This tournament will help us prepare the Vancouver Championships. We have learned a lot today. We played new lines and we know that we can definitively beat Australia. We will work on it this summer.’
Japan wins the Bronze 60-51 against Sweden
Both teams played a very tight match until the beginning of the first half. Japan leading by one point (43-41) came back strongly adding up to the score with a 6 points lead. Sweden never had a chance to get back. The Japaneese kept pushing up to the last second to finish the game 60-51.
Earlier today, Sweden defeated Australia 54-41, in one of the last regular games of the tournament.
This had no effect on the line-up of the tournament Final. Needless to say that Australia’s star player Ryley Batt spent time on the bench to rest.
Great Britain won over Belgium (59-42), finishing the tournament in fifth place. As for Germany, who never won a single game, the tournament ended yesterday with Canada beating them 63-32.
